The Washington court system has issued a warning about a fraudulent email that is being widely circulated around the U.S.

According to the Administrative Office of the Courts, the email states that the recipient is to appear in “the court of Washington” on January 17, and directs the recipient to read an attached “court notice” that attempts to download a virus when opened. The subject line of the email is “Urgent court notice NR#73230” (or other random number). Recipients are advised to delete the email immediately without opening it.

If you have any doubt as to whether you have a pending court date, the Washington Courts website also contains a search function which can be used to locate cases that have been filed in Superior, District and Municipal courts around the state, by case number or the name of any party.
