Preventing Elder Abuse

Consumer Reports has published an article outlining some common scams targeting seniors.
There are other helpful articles available for free at consumerrports.org, including “Initiatives That Could Help Prevent Elder Fraud” as well links to more information published by groups such as AARP, and contact information for national organizations that track suspected abuse and may be able to find help for abuse victims, such as the Federal Trade Commission, National Adult Protective Services Association, and the fraud hotline maintained by the US Senate’s Special Committee on Aging.
Washington residents may also report suspected elder abuse to Adult Protective Services, the Washington Attorney General (who also posts information about various scams) and the police department in the jurisdiction where the alleged victim lives.
