End-of-Life Care

Posted Tuesday, September 27, 2016 by John S. Palmer

Planning for end-of-life care decisions is important. It is something we will all face at some point during our lives. One way to plan is by preparing an advanced health care directive. It is also advisable to talk with your loved ones about what type of care you wish to receive. While there is a host of information on the subject, not everyone knows where to find it or how to go about searching for it.

The National Institute on Aging, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has an informative website and downloadable 76-page PDF to assist with the many aspects of providing care and comfort to the dying. These publications offer information on the types of end-of-life care available, how to understand healthcare decisions, and what steps to take after someone has passed away. Each chapter article includes additional resources for those who desire more information.

Making end-of-life care decisions is stressful. Planning ahead and talking with your family helps ease that stress for all involved. The article discussed above is designed to assist with the most common end-of-life issues people face.

Additional information on these issues for Washington residents can be found at this webpage, maintained by the Northwest Justice Project.
